Each November, the home care and hospice community celebrates Home Care & Hospice Month. While we believe the millions of nurses and home care aides who make a major impact on the patients and families they serve should be honored every day, we’re delighted their countless contributions are recognized this month.

We started InteractiveCare to support these healthcare professionals in post-acute care settings. For the past several months, we have been hard at work developing a comprehensive suite of home healthcare solutions and services. The result is an unprecedented virtual visit solution providing the highest quality experience and transcripts of entire patient encounters in real time (along with other value-added offerings).

We believe technology can play an important role in enhancing the home health care experience. We want to make it easier for home health agencies to achieve the triple AIM of improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction); improving the health of populations; and reducing the per capita cost of healthcare.

The Expanding Realm of Home Health Care
The need for home health care is massive and growing. According to the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, more than 5 million Americans benefit from home care services. This number is expected to increase in the coming years as 75 million baby boomers enter retirement. As a society, we have a strong preference to spend our golden years in the comfort of our own homes. In fact, 90 percent of Americans want to age in place, and you can’t beat sleeping in your own bed.

The Frontline Caregivers
Registered nurses and home health aides are on the frontlines of home health care. The demands of these taxing jobs are not for the faint of heart. In addition to caring for patients, there is a tremendous amount of travel involved. Through solutions like telehealth video conferencing, nurses and aides can spend less time on the road for visits that can be conducted remotely. Our healthcare system would fall apart without this kind, caring individuals. Be sure to express your appreciation for all they do this month, and throughout the year.
